When international superstar Beyoncé wanted some new dance moves for her video, she chose little known Mozambique dance trio Tofo Tofo to create the choreography.
They are dancing Pantsula which are urban street-style dance moves which originated in the 50-60’s in South Africa. It consists mostly of quick, powerful, low stepping rhythmic movements in a controlled fashion. Many groups in South Africa and neighboring countries practice many hours weekly and perform it to Kwaito music. It’s also popular among dancers and played as house music in clubs.
