Most of the stuff Buster Keaton did doesn’t look all that dangerous now, but safety measures were practically non-existent then, so things were a lot more dangerous. Buster broke just about every bone in his body at some point or another, including his neck at one point. If people did the same stunts now it wouldn’t be as dangerous, but then he literally rushed his life every day to make people laugh.
Buster was a true genius and sadly is still underrated today. His movies always has a wonderful mix of slapstick, irony and pathos that even Chaplin couldn’t match.
